A GRAND DAY OUT
ON BOARD THE ELIZABETH ROSE NARROWBOAT WITH
HELEN, JENNIFER, AND DAVID WANAMAKER - KINGSBROMLEY MARINA - LICHFIELD- UK
Preparing to get underway - Dave folding the satellite dish <low tunnels!> and Helen and daughter Jennifer doing some washing up in the galley.
“There is nothing -- absolutely nothing -- half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. In or out of 'em, it doesn't matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that's the charm of it....
...Whether you get away, or whether you don't; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you're always busy, and you never do anything in particular; and when you've done it there's always something else to do, and you can do it if you like, but you'd much better not."
Spoken by Ratty to Mole
Wind in the Willows
by Kenneth Grahame (1859-1932).
Having moored the boat across the road <literally!> we dash through a brief shower to have Tea at Spode Cottage.
Underway and enjoying the flora along the Trent Mersey Canal
Oops..another boat coming!
We have to moor for a bit to let them pass.
May 23, 2006 and Im fresh off the train from Birmingham having flown in from Edinburgh in the early morning. I’ve dumped my bags at a motel and now Im into the welcome warmth of family and English sunshine! Helen fed me her justly famous blueberry muffins and David took me out for a day cruise on the Canal with a stop for Tea on the way back. It was also a wonderful surprise to meet up with niece Jennifer as well!
Thanks you guys for giving this weary traveler a welcome ‘rest from the road.’ Blessings!
